Students can participate in two forecast contests--the national contest hosted by the University of Oklahoma, and the local forecasting contest hosted by the AMS. In the national contest, students compete against students across the country, forecasting for many different cities four days a week. Todd Foisy, now a Utah alumni, recived 2nd place overall in the country--a contest in which over 1,000 contestants participated.
Students can also participate in the local forecasting contest. Forecasts are made once a week on Fridays during the regular seasons--fall and spring. At the end of the spring season, the best four forecasters from each season play in a tournament style playoff round, and the winner becomes the foreacst contest champion for the year. Forecasts during the regular season are for Salt Lake International Airport in the fall, and Alta-Collins in the spring.
