ARTICLE I: NAME

 

This organization shall be known as the University of Utah Chapter of the American Meteorological Society. In this constitution it will be referred to as "the Chapter".

 

ARTICLE II: OBJECTIVES

 

The objectives of the Chapter include: the development and understanding within the field of meteorology in all its phases and applications, to provide a medium for members of various educational levels to interact and learn from one another, and to help relieve the pressures of academia by providing members a social outlet.

 

ARTICLE III: MEMBERSHIP

1.

Membership is open to any undergraduate or graduate students enrolled at the University of Utah, and also may be open to interested persons who are not enrolled at the University of Utah, this will be voted upon by a vote by majority.

 

2.

Any person having met the requirements set fourth in 1 and who agree to abide by the requirements of this Constitution shall become an active member upon payment of dues and signing this Constitution.

 

3.

Membership in the National AMS will be encouraged, but not required

 

ARTICLE IV: DUTIES OF MEMBERSHIP

1.

A members in good standing is one who:

 

 

A. Pays Dues
B. Attends Meetings Regularly
C. Participates in Chapter activities

2.

Members should notify an officer if they can not attend a meeting.

3.

A member not in reasonably good standing may be excluded from Chapter-sponsored activities.

 

ARTICLE V: OFFICERS

 

1.

The elected officers of the Chapter shall be President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer.

2.

The elected officers shall be elected for one year.

3.

The elected officers shall hold membership in this Chapter or be candidates thereof.

4.

Officers shall be elected during the month of April and shall take office the beginning date of the fiscal year.

 

5.

The succession of officers shall be President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary.

6.

Vacated offices shall be filled by selection by the Chapter.

 

ARTICLE VI: OBLIGATIONS OF OFFICERS

President:

Shall call all meetings, he/she may appoint committee members or special Officers when deemed necessary, he/she shall preside over all meetings of the chapter and the Executive committee.

 

Vice President:

Shall preside in the absence of the President, he/she is a member of all committees and must report to the President.

 

Treasurer:

Shall deal with the finances of the Chapter and act as the purchasing and sales agent of the Chapter.

 

Secretary:

Shall record the minutes of all Chapter and Executive committee meetings, responsible for contacting members regarding meetings and activities.

 

 

ARTICLE VIII: MEETINGS

1.

The Chapter will meet approximately once every 3 weeks except for the months of June, July, and August.

 

2.

Meetings shall be called by the executive committee or President when deemed necessary.

3.

All meetings shall be posted five or more days in advance. Time and place will be announced in the notice.

 

 

ARTICLE IX: DUES

1.

Dues shall be five dollars ($5.00) per year, due within reasonable time of the first meeting of the semester; in addition, dues will also be five dollars ($5.00) for people joining for only one semester.

 

2.

As of August 2007, AMS student dues will be ten dollars ($10.00) per year.

 

ARTICLE X: FINANCES

1.

Spending in excess of $50.00 shall require aproval from a majority of the Chapter, and consent of the President and Advisor of the Chapter.

 

2.

Spending less than or equal to $50.00 shall be voted upon by the Executive committee.

3.

An account shall be established solely containing the Chapter's funds; the treasurer shall be responsible for depositing and withdrawing money from the account.

 

 

ARTICLE XI: COMMITTEES

 

1.

The Executive committee shall consist of the elected officers.

2.

Committees shall be created when deemed necessary either by officers or through member suggestions.

 

3.

Committees shall elect their own chairman.

4.

The chairman of every committee must report the progress of his/her committee at every meeting.

 

ARTICLE XII: ADVISOR

 

1.

The advisor shall be nominated and elected at the time of the officer elections; the nominee(s) must be genuinely interested in advising the Chapter.

 

 

ARTICLE XIII: GOVERNANCE/PARLIAMENTARY PROCEDURE

 

1.

Robert's Rules of Order Revised shall govern the chapter. If any questions arise concerning the Chapter's constitutional interpretation, then one should consult Robert's Rules of Order Revised.

 

 

ARTICLE XIV: DISSOLUTION

 

1.

Upon dissolution or disbandment of the Chapter, all funds and properties in excess of liabilities and dissolution will be distributed as determined by the majority of the active members.

 

 

ARTICLE XV: ADOPTION

 

1.

The constitution shall become effective upon ratification by two-thirds of people present at the innaugural meeting of the Chapter, September 20th, 2000.
